This bowl is 4.75 inches wide by 3 inches tall.
My pottery is all about surface design. The form and color are critically important aspects of my work, but it's the designs I meticulously carve into their surfaces that make each piece a unique work of art.
I throw and trim each piece on a pottery wheel. I then apply three thin coats of colored underglaze (think of this as ceramic paint) to the outside of the pot. Finally, my favorite part of the process, I carve designs into the surface of the piece. These designs are all improvised, one of a kind compositions. The fact that each design is unique is what makes the whole process fun for me.
The layer of underglaze on the outside of the piece adhered to the surface of the pot during the firing and will not come off with daily use.
Each piece has a glossy glaze applied its interior making it food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
