This discis intended to hang on the wall and is 9 inches wide by .25 inches thick.

It was made by rolling out a slab of clay and then applying three thin coats of colored underglaze (think of this as ceramic paint) Next, my favorite part, I carved a design through the underglaze to reveal the lighter clay beneath. This is an ancient technique called "sgraffito"

The piece is then fired which adheres the underglaze to the clay permanently. This disc would make a great addition to the decor of any room!
